Star Wars: Santa Buddies” is a Christmas themed Star Wars animation, and loose successor / prequel to Star Wars: Infinity War, which I had released a year earlier. The animation stars Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker, in a parody of the famous “I am your father” scene from The Empire Strikes Back.

This animation was the first to demonstrate more complex voice manipulation, with the robotic voice of Darth Vader. To achieve this affect without proper audio mixing software, I had to come up with slightly less conventional techniques. I created three files in total; one final file, and two files purely with Vader dialogue. The first Vader file had the dialogue recorded normally, with the timing correct. In the second file, I imported the first file, and slowed it down. This lowered the pitch of the video, as well as slow it down. Finally, I brought the audio from the second file into my final file, and then sped it up, setting “Speed affects pitch” to off.

This was also my final full animation produced using iPad software, including Animation Creator HD and iMovie. Since then, I’ve moved on to use the Adobe Suite, including Flash and Premiere Pro.
